I'm thinking Al Pacino was replaced in the 1980s. He had a "4-year hiatus from film" during that period. The biggest change I notice is in his voice but there are appearance and mannerism and personality changes too. It seemed to happen some time in the 80s. Listen to his voice here in the early 80s. This is how he sounded in all his films up to about this time: Then later in the 80s his voiced changed and became deeper and raspier. There were also changes in appearance and personality (such as in interviews) and in mannerisms. I don't think the real Al Pacino, a nasal-voiced, introspective guy ... ... aged to become this raspy-voiced, belligerent guy:
