"Former world surfing champion Andy Irons, 32, has died
Andy Irons, a three-time world surfing champion and one of the more popular athletes on the Assn. of Surfing Professionals' elite World Tour, has died after becoming seriously ill during a competition in Puerto Rico. Irons was only 32 and leaves behind a pregnant wife, Lyndie, and younger brother, Bruce, who is a former World Tour competitor.
Irons' death was confirmed Tuesday by his family, which in a statement said he passed away during a layover while between flights from Puerto Rico to his home in Hawaii.
According to the Associated Press he was found dead in a Dallas hotel room at mid-morning Tuesday. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy Wednesday to determine the cause of death. Irons had checked into the hotel Monday.
The family's statement begins: "The world of surfing mourns an incredibly sad loss today with the news that Hawaii's Andy Irons has died. Andy was a beloved husband, and a true champion."
Irons, who was born and raised on Kauai, pulled out of the Rip Curl Search Puerto Rico on Sunday, citing an illness he contracted during the previous contest in Portugal.
He was known for his fast but fluid style on a surfboard, and for his epic heat battles with Kelly Slater, many of which occurred as Irons was reeling off his titles in succession from 2002-04.
Irons also was a dominant force in Hawaii, where he won four prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing titles and four Billabong Pipeline Masters championships.
The Triple Crown is scheduled to begin next week. Event spokeswoman Jodi Wilmott told the AP: "The thing that I think many of us appreciated the most about Andy was that he was an incredibly real person. Where a lot of champions in sports and celebrities become very guarded and you just wonder sometimes if you're really seeing who they are, you've got Andy Irons 100 percent of the time."
Billabong, Irons' primary sponsor, posted a tribute page on its website, which includes this statement: "Andy was one of the greatest surfers of our time. More than that, he was a much loved son, a devoted husband and a soon-to-be father. The thoughts of all Billabong employees worldwide are with wife Lyndie and Andy's family at this most devastating time."
Lyndie is scheduled to give birth to the couple's first child, a son, in December.
Irons' death comes at a time when Slater, 38, pro surfing's most accomplished athlete, is in Puerto Rico trying to clinch a tenth world title.
Irons had his ups and downs after his title run and often struggled with his surfing and emotions. He took last year off, citing personal reasons, but being newly married seemed to provide him with new inspiration. He returned to the tour this season and is presently ranked No. 16 in the world."

Hmmm. "Dengue fever was one of more than a dozen agents that the United States researched as potential biological weapons before the nation suspended its biological weapons program." And what exactly does 'suspended' mean to our government? Ha! There are outbreaks all over the world these days.

Yes, the US Military/CIA has carried out germ warfare around the world, and also inside the USA, since the late 1940s. It became a big scandal at the United Nations in 1952-53 when the Pentagon was caught using germ warfare in the Korean War against Koreans and Chinese, including U.S. weapon microbes of bubonic plague, anthrax, cholera, hantavirus, and smallpox among other diseases. Several weeks ago it was front page New York Times headlines that the U.S. "public health" authorities sicked and killed hundreds or more Guatemalans with sexually transmitted disease germ warfare and human experiments, a la AIDS (more US biowarfare, using WW II Japanese biowarfare data and Nazi scientists).

MGM studio files for bankruptcy, Icahn backs plan
Buzz up!7 votes ShareretweetEmailPrint
By Jonathan Stempel Jonathan Stempel – 2 hrs 16 mins ago NEW YORK (Reuters) – Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday, under a plan that would put one of Hollywood's most storied film studios under the control of its lenders.
The Chapter 11 filing follows a vote by MGM creditors last week to endorse a "prepackaged" bankruptcy that would put MGM under the control of Hollywood executives Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, who control the Spyglass Entertainment film company.
MGM also agreed to concessions to Carl Icahn, one of its largest debtholders, to win the billionaire's support for its restructuring.
Icahn had previously supported a rival bid to merge MGM with another studio, Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.
Founded in 1924 and known for its roaring lion logo, MGM controls the James Bond franchise, and has also produced or released many of Hollywood's best-known films, including "The Wizard of Oz" and "Ben-Hur."
Its reorganization would allow secured lenders including Credit Suisse Group AG and JPMorgan Chase & Co to swap more than $4 billion of MGM debt for most of the equity in a reorganized company.
CUTTING DEBT, RAISING CAPITAL
MGM has struggled with too much debt since 2005 when it was sold in a $2.85 billion leveraged buyout.
The buyout group included private equity firms Providence Equity Partners, TPG Capital LP, Quadrangle Group and DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, as well as Comcast Corp and Sony Corp..
MGM said it expects a federal bankruptcy judge to approve the restructuring in about 30 days.
The Los Angeles-based company and roughly 160 affiliates sought protection from creditors with the U.S. bankruptcy court in Manhattan. Judge Stuart Bernstein was assigned to the case.
Stephen Cooper, MGM's co-chief executive, in a statement said the reorganization will improve MGM's finances by "sharply reducing" debt and providing access to new capital.
MGM said it expects to raise $500 million upon emerging from bankruptcy to fund operations, including the production of films and TV series.
ICAHN
Icahn said the plan calls for MGM to adopt a series of corporate governance changes, and give him the right to appoint a board director once the company emerges from bankruptcy.
MGM also agreed not to acquire the film library of Cypress Entertainment, a Barber and Birnbaum affiliate, he said.
"We were able to obtain an agreement to make changes to the MGM prepackaged plan that allows me to support it and enables the company to avoid a potentially costly and disruptive bankruptcy," Icahn said in a statement.
Barber and Birnbaum would also sit on the board of a reorganized MGM, along with seven directors named by lenders and several independent directors, MGM said.
Lions Gate has separately been suing Icahn, alleging that he interfered with its efforts to merge with MGM.
A Lions Gate spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Lions Gate has produced the hit TV show "Mad Men" as well as the Oscar-winning film "Precious."
Spyglass' involvement with MGM had also been seen as key to a lucrative arrangement with Time Warner Inc's Warner Bros Pictures and the director Peter Jackson to film two movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novel "The Hobbit."
The case is In re: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York, No. 10-15774.

"Former Bachelorette Conestant Julien Hug Found Dead
Former Bachelorette contestant Julien Hug, who competed on Jillian Harris' season, has been found dead.
His father, Bertrand Hug, told San Diego's KGTV that the 35-year-old's body was found in a remote area off a Southern California highway Wednesday.
The cause of death is being investigated, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Melissa Nieburger. She said the body was found about 11 a.m. in Pinyon Pines, but would not confirm the identity or if foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. A missing person report was filed Monday for Hug, who was not seen after leaving San Diego for Palm Desert. His parents, restaurateurs Bertrand and Denise Hug, recently purchased an upscale restaurant in Palm Desert that was to be run by their son. Hug had been managing Mille Fleurs, one of his family's other restaurants.
Fellow Bachelorette contestant Kiptyn Locke, who kept in touch with Hug after the show, called his death "crushing news."
"[Hug was] one of the most positive, standout people I have met," Locke told KGTV. "He was always trying to help other people. From the very first time I met him, he was just a very selfless guy.
Hug was eliminated in the second episode of the fifth season of The Bachelorette.
"Please say a prayer for the loss of a friend this morning," Harris tweeted. "Life is fragile, don't forget to love the ones you love."

I see 7 - 11/02/2010=7 - but that's how I figure the symbolic number for the day. Like today, 11052010= 10=1. Also, "He took last year off, citing personal reasons, but being newly married" We always sense something when someone takes a good amount of time away...and then comes back...changes their life...remarries or finds a new partner...
