High profile former Ironman Dean Mercer dies on the Gold Coast FORMER national ironman champion Dean Mercer has died after a car crash on the Gold Coast. Mercer, who won the Australian open ironman titles in 1989 and 1995, died at Gold Coast University Hospital after being rushed there by ambulance. The Gold Coast Bulletin is reporting the 47-year-old suffered a medical condition at the wheel. He then had a cardiac arrest in the emergency room and died. Harry Dean Stanton, cult American actor, dies aged 91 Harry Dean Stanton, the veteran American actor who ballasted generations of independent and cult films, has died aged 91. The subject of the late critic Roger Ebert’s “Stanton Walsh Rule” – “No movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad” – Stanton was famed for his ability to project his hangdog, laconic charm into minor roles, which ensured he worked continuously for over six decades.
