Here's smth I stumbled into, though I always thought smth more than brotherly love was between them:
RICHARD CARPENTER & KAREN CARPENTER WERE THEY GAY
"I am not stating this to make people mad. I am a huge Carpenter's fan. There also nothing wrong with being gay. I am however convinced that both Richard and Karen were gay. Richard "Took after his mother" loved the piano and was "very close too her".
Karen was known as being a "TOMBOY". She was also killer on the drums. Her mom forced her to play instruments that were more "suitable for a lady". Karen also had a negative body image which of course caused her to die from anorexia.
I think Richard knew he was gay. I think Karen didn't know she was gay. Both of them suffered from some sort of addiction.

I completely agree with you; am also a carpenters fan and always knew that Karen was a lesbian; no doubt about it in my mind; she was forced to be something she was not; thats what really killed her, the anorexia was a symptom of a larger problem. KC and RC were not gay and weren't close to being either. Karen was a tomboy when she was a teenager, it is normal for some straight girls to be. She never carried that into her adult years. Richard has a beautiful wife and five wonderful children. Just because you are close to your mother doesn't mean that you are a homosexual! What does loving the piano have to do with anything? But to answer your question, they were certainly not gay. I can assure you of that. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 10:51:00 PM PDT BuffyTheSlayr said...
I agree about Karen although never really thought about Richard but he did marry his 1st cousin right after his sister died, therefore telling the world his sister did not improve.
Also heard a rumor about Karen and Olivia Newton John, etc. Saturday, October 18, 2008 9:11:00 PM PDT Stan said...
I think Karen was. She also seem not to have control of anything in her life. Her brother picked all the songs. SHe sang them the way he wanted them too.
When she recorded her solo alblum Richard hated it. I think he hated the alblum because he had no say on any of the recordings.
13 years after Karens's death the record was released. Had it been released while she was still alive I am sure the record would of been a hit. "Where do I go from Here" is a very moving. You are absolutely crazy. Of course they are not gay. How narrow minded of you. Look beyond your own little lives and see the Carpenters for what they were and you will find the reason behind their troubles. I am a doctor with alot of experience in eating disorders, addiction as well as many other areas, so please take my advice. Karen would be turning in her grave to hear your comments. Many celebs used to date or marry to cover up their sexual orientation because it was thought it would hurt their careers if people knew. Homosexuality is genetic and it is common for multiple siblings in one family to be gay. I personally know of many examples, including members of my own family.
I do not have any direct knowledge but would not at all be surprised to learn that either or both were predisposed to same sex orientation. There are many indications that would align. It is surprising how many men who know they have gay feelings marry, often not even telling the wife, though some are very open. This is very sad to me but I think will be less common as society becomes more accepting of same sex relationships. Gay or not, both Carpenter siblings were very talented. Karen's death was tragic at such a young age and under such sad circumstances though it did lead to much more public knowledge of eating disorders.

Wow she really does bear a strong resemblance to Margot Kidder and Kate Jackson. Did you know that both Kidder and Jackson 'went crazy' and were found to be running a bit wild in their neighborhoods ?? See: www.gossiprocks.com/forum/latest-gossip/108509-kate-jacksons-strange-living-habits.html" Kate's personal assistant hired Angelotti and his crew to clear the home — and neighbors say it was long overdue. "Kate is very sweet, but there's something a bit bizarre about her," one fed-up neighbor tells Star. "She has so much clutter in her backyard, and the house is in shambles."
Meanwhile, Kate's alarming behavior in front of the cleaning crew — she was talking very fast, Angelotti says, and she kept repeating herself, stuttering and clicking her jaw a lot — appears to be a troubling sign that the 60-year-old actress may be battling her old drug demons. " Also Karen's solo album was produced by Phil Ramone. Let's take a look at some of Ramone's other producees. Any names ring an MK bell? "Among those whose music he has produced are The Guess Who, Burt Bacharach, Laura Branigan, Karen Carpenter, Ray Charles, Peter Cincotti, Chicago, Natalie Cole, Bob Dylan, Gloria Estefan, Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Elton John, Sheena Easton, Fito Páez, Quincy Jones, B. B. King, Diane Schuur, Julian Lennon, Madonna, Richard Marx, Paul McCartney, George Michael, Sinéad O'Connor, Luciano Pavarotti, Andre Previn, Carly Simon, Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Olivia Newton-John, Liza Minnelli, Barry Manilow, Clay Aiken, Patricia Kaas, Peter Paul and Mary, and Melissa Errico. He is also credited with recording Marilyn Monroe's rendition of "Happy Birthday to You" to President John F. Kennedy [2]." You don't say.... Look at the title list on Karen's album. There's something kind of sick about the emphasis on 'lovin', considering she never married and had major body image issues I'm thinking a sexual abuse or sexual issues were also present for her... In light of this possibility how icky the following: Lovelines All Because of You If I Had You Making Love in the Afternoon (featuring Peter Cetera) If We Try Remember When Lovin' Took All Night Still in Love With You My Body Keeps Changing My Mind Make Believe It's Your First Time Guess I Just Lost My Head Still Crazy After All These Years Last One Singin' the Blues (Bonus Track)
Not to mention the Head, mind and body references.

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that! Though I read somewhere where her solo album contained more 'sexy' songs than she had done before and that her brother was not pleased with the new styling.

Ewww....so that's why the Dixie Chicks became famous? Never could stand them....
Monarch slaves are most likely starved by their handlers. I recall in TranceFormation of America by Cathy O Brien that she was not fed much, if at all, and was forced to do either alot of exercise or housework, yardwork to stay thin. Look at most of the "stars" they are very, very thin, or those who have died were very thin, like Michael Jackson...Lindsay Lohan.
It may serve to research more of Karen's relationship with her father...there's usually a great deal of abuse in the creation of a monarch slave.
Another strange father/daughter relationship that has reared it's head as of late, and that of Mackenzie Philips and her late father John.
Something about Laurel canyon....but I have to research that before I make any further comment on that situation.

LOS ANGELES – David Letterman acknowledged on Thursday's show that he had sexual relationships with female employees and that someone tried to extort $2 million from him over the affairs. During the taping of his CBS late-night show in New York, Letterman discussed receiving a threat to either pay $2 million or risk the relationships being made public. In a release from the show's producer, Letterman said he referred the matter to the Manhattan district attorney's office and that an investigation ended in an arrest Thursday. Letterman did not identify the person he said was arrested. As part of the investigation, Letterman said he issued a "phony" $2 million check to the individual and the arrest followed — along with testimony by Letterman. "This morning, I did something I've never done in my life," said Letterman. "I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury." In his testimony, he said he acknowledged sexual relationships with members of his staff. "My response to that is, yes I have," Letterman said. "Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would. I feel like I need to protect these people. I need to certainly protect my family." CBS spokesman Chris Ender said Thursday that "Letterman's comments on the broadcast tonight speak for themselves." Letterman and longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko married in March. The couple began dating in 1986 and have a son, Harry, born in November 2003.

That was the question many were debating Friday, the day after the CBS "Late Show" host revealed to his audience that he had sexual relationships with female employees and had been the victim of an extortion attempt to keep that information private. Letterman unraveled the sordid story with humor, honesty and self-effacement. He may have endeared himself to some fans, but his likeability has been thrown into jeopardy. Reaction poured in Friday, including from other late-night hosts. During a taping of NBC's "Late Night," Jimmy Fallon worked it into his monologue: "A new book called `Why Women Have Sex' says there are 237 reasons why women have sex and Letterman knows the top 10." Friday night's "Late Show" was taped Thursday, as was Craig Ferguson's "Late Show." (Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" are dark on Fridays.) That left Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel. On the Web, videos of Letterman's confession were hard to find. CBS, which has an agreement with YouTube, hadn't posted any clips of the segment as of late Friday. It also didn't have the episode available on www.cbs.com. The demand was clearly there. Throughout Friday, videos of his revelation were posted on YouTube without CBS' permission. Whenever they gained thousands of views, CBS had them removed. In the comments sections of YouTube videos, the dialogue was two-sided as some came to Letterman's defense, while others were critical. Similar lines were drawn on Twitter, where Letterman was one of the most tweeted-about subjects. He evoked both sympathy and disgust, as he did in comments posted in blogs and on social networks. Referring to Thursday's studio audience, which laughed through parts of Letterman's somewhat comical telling of the story, New York Times columnist David Carr tweeted: "Aw, now Letterman is his own punchline. Yuck." A running Internet joke seen on sites such as YouTube and Facebook involved a pun on the name of Letterman's production company, World Wide Pants Inc. On YouTube, videos of different woman who have worked on-air at the "Late Show" were circulating. Most were of Stephanie Birkitt, the sometimes on-air assistant who lived in Norwalk, Conn., with the alleged extortionist, Robert J. "Joe" Halderman, a producer for the true-crime show "48 Hours." For several years, Birkitt regularly appeared on the "Late Show," often aiding Letterman in his audience interactions. Videos of her cameos circulated widely as the Web sought glimpses of her. Ben McConnell, a marketing expert and author, blogged that Letterman had gotten in front of the story "in this Twitter-driven world." He wrote: "Letterman has certainly neutralized far worse rumor-mongering that could have quickly spiraled, jeopardizing his reputation, maybe even his job." Like many blogs, Gawker.com was trolling through "Late Show" archives to find evidence of hypocrisy in Letterman's various jokes about infidelity through the years. Gawker wrote that the 62-year-old host was "haunted by the ghosts of Monica Lewinsky jokes past" and linked to old videos and top 10 lists of the "Late Show." Other sleuthing was going on, too, as those following the sordid story looked for information on the less famous players involved. Halderman's Facebook page (which features a photo of him lounging in an Adirondack chair) had its personal information deleted. ___ CBS is a division of CBS Corp. ___

David Letterman's ex-intern Holly Hester is second woman alleged to have slept with 'Late' hostBY Henrick Karoliszyn In Norwalk, Conn. and Samuel Goldsmith In New York DAILY NEWS WRITERS Updated Saturday, October 3rd 2009, 7:06 PM Stephanie Birkitt, (pictured above) was David Letterman's assistant and was the first woman identified as having a sexual affair with the late night host. Take our PollLetterman's future Do you think David Letterman should resign after admitting he had affairs with staffers? No - elected officials have done worse and kept their jobs. "I was madly in love with him at the time," Holly Hester told TMZ.com. "I would have married him. He was hilarious." The NYU alum said the relationship started in the early '90s when Letterman called and asked her on a date to the movies. A year-long, secret romance ensued, she said, until the funnyman called it off because of their age difference. Hester could not be reached for comment Saturday. Letterman, 62, admitted on the air Thursday that he had had affairs with female staffers - apparently while carrying on a relationship with longtime love Regina Lasko, who married him in March. In the extraordinary mea culpa, he did not name his paramours, saying it was up to them to decide if they wanted to come forward. He made the sudden confession as he revealed that an Emmy-winning CBS News producer had tried to extort $2 million from him, threatening to reveal his sex secrets. The producer, Robert (Joe) Halderman, 51, is free on $200,000 bond after pleading not guilty to the blackmail scheme. He returned to his Norwalk, Conn., home late Friday and left briefly to run errands on Saturday, refusing to speak to the crowd of reporters waiting outside. "Get off my property or I'll call the police," the rattled news vet barked. "This is a private road. If I see one more of you guys on this road, I will call the cops," he added. "This is trespassing - it's against the law." Dressed in an Arizona State University shirt and a Titleist golf hat, Halderman hurried to his gray Honda Accord for a quick trip to the bank and laundermat. It was unclear if the Bank of America he visited was the same branch where he had deposited a phony $2 million check Letterman gave him as part of a sting operation. Later in the day, Halderman received a visit from a middle-aged couple and a young teen. Halderman gave the woman a long hug when she met him at his door. After he muttered something, the trio laughed before entering the house and staying for a couple of hours. Prosecutors said Halderman tried to shake down the multimillionaire because a divorce from his wife, Patty Montet, had left him in debt, saddled with $6,000 a month in support payments. Friends said he also was distraught that Montet had moved to Colorado with their 11-year-old son earlier this year. He recently split with his girlfriend, Stephanie Birkitt, 34, a "Late Show" staffer believed to be one of Letterman's "other women." Halderman has reported from more than 70 countries during his award-winning 30-year career and covered complex crimes for "48 Hours." Colleagues were stunned by allegations that he left a blackmail threat - in the form of a screenplay treatment about Letterman's dalliances - in the host's car and then tried to collect $2million from him. "I am surprised, mystified and stunned to hear these allegations against Halderman," former CBS anchor Dan Rather told People magazine. "They are almost impossible to believe. He was always a solid character, steady, reliable, and a good, swift writer." Halderman's lawyer, Gerald Shargel, said prosecutors do not have an "open and shut" case and that the public hasn't heard his client's side of the story. Letterman has not spoken since his on-air statement, and Birkitt has not been reached for comment. Despite his joking tone, the late-night host said the extortion plot terrified him for three weeks until Halderman was arrested outside his office Thursday. "This whole thing has been quite scary," Letterman said. "I was worried for myself. I was worried for my family." "I hope to protect my job," he added. "It's been a very bizarre experience." sgoldsmith@nydailynews.com Read more: www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2009/10/03/2009-10-03_david_lettermans_exintern_holly_hester_is_second_woman_alleged_to_have_slept_wit.html##ixzz0SwCBxhKg
