I know this may sound crazy. BUt years ago on the now defunct soap opera Guiding LIght, there was a mad doctor who cloned the lead character Reva. And in a matter of a short time she aged to the age of the character. Which tells me they were telegraphing their punches with clones.
They may develop a "baby", but it ages quickly, and in the case of stars, when they get to the age of the star, it doesn't take long for them to age moreso than normal people of the same age.
Which leads me to think of these stars that you haven't seen for a while and the next time you see them, they sorta look like who they are supposed to be, but there are such strange differences and you wonder what they "did" to look so strange. Cloning is most likely the thing that happened. The aged clone looks odd, compared to if you had seen the real person at the same age.
