Fox News VP: If McCain Worker 'Mutilation' Story is a Hoax His Campaign is 'Over'

... And now John Moody, executive vice president at Fox News, has commented on his blog that "this incident could become a watershed event in the 11 days before the election. If Ms. Todd's allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.
"If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain's quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting."
He titles his posting: "Moment of Truth." Indeed. Matt Drudge, who had trumpeted the story for nearly 24 hours, just added a new link titled "B...or B.S.?" ...

5. What bizarre overreaching--why would it have any impact on Obama if she was
telling the truth? Why would people "suddenly feel they don't know" enough about Obama if this incident really happened? And no, it's not the end of McLoon's campaign either, as long as they didn't put this girl up to it.

17. It was the thought I had from the start: Even if true, what's it matter? . . .
Anyone who makes up their mind about an election based on the actions of a mugger doesn't truly vote their own interests from the start, so an incident such as this -- which has nothing even tangentially to do with either politics or this election -- can only be seen as the rational an easily persuaded fool would use for their decision. If not this, they'll find something equally stupid to base their lives upon.
And you're right, as well, wd: This has nothing to do with McCain, either, so again, those who make up their mind based on the actions of an immature, desperate young adult who sees her hopes and dreams vanishing and lashes out erratically in a last ditch effort to change history, well, that person's as much a fool as those who follow the dictates of muggers.
Gad, that we even
discuss this proves we live in a nation overrun by simpletons and fools. Printer Friendly | Permalink | Reply | Top

If John McCain loses it, it's because he ran a failed campaign and because he's an erratic, old
warmongering psycho who everyone knows is just an aged George Bush.
McCain's loss won't be because of this bizarre Ashley Todd thing.
Fox and the Republicans just can't come to grips with the fact that no one is buying McCain's failed
policies--and that America truly admires and agrees with Barack Obama and his plan for this country.

8. WTF did this incident have to do with Obama?
If it was true, then it was the action of a rather deranged individual. To even suggest there was any connection to the Obama campaign is just plain bizarre (and desperate).
Likewise the fact that the incident was not true should have no impact on McCain, unless they had embraced the story as indicative of Obama's true "colors".

10. Oddly enough, I do not hold McPalin liable for this one.
I'll grant you, they are complete and total douche-bags for a variety of reasons, but I don't hold them accountable for the actions of one volunteer. People get really stupid sometimes in the middle of a campaign and they do sh*t without anybody actually IN the campaign approving it or even KNOWING about it. I have seen it happen TOO many times to discount it. As a candidate that kind of crap can keep you up at night with cold flop sweat.
Certainly she needs to be prosecuted and the McPalin crew needs to disavow her actions, but I honest to God think that the actual campaign had ZERO idea she was gonna do this.

15. She's an employee of the National Committee of College Republicans.
They sent her to Pennsylvania and she was in contact with them while she was staging the "attack." McCain may not have known anything about it, but the National Committee of College Republicans has some explaining to do.
Especially since it appears that she has pulled this kind of stunt before.

16. True...
She is obviously mentally ill in a way that could appear anywhere. Her racist fantasy could have as easily been a fantasy of persecution by space beings, or voices. This is not a political act, although it picks up on the available political lightning rods (in this case, racist) to generate attention.

19. That just makes no sense either way
unless they can tie the hoax to the upper echelons of the McCain campaign. If somehow an Obama supporter flipped out and attacked a McCain worker, how should that make anyone not vote for Obama? Similarly, one particularly unhinged McCain volunteer shouldn't turn anyone away from McCain unless it was clear the whole thing was orchestrated from a high level.
But... if there were a politically-motivated attack on Obama supporters I do think that would be a good reason for voters to abandon McCain, because that WOULD be a consequence of the rhetoric they have tolerated, if not tacitly encouraged.
