New Hollywood obscenely big-$$ piece of s--t starring Feddie Furphy, plus a review of new Fohn Fravolta vehicle below:
JUNE 12
• IMAGINE THAT: Let’s cut to the chase. Eddie Murphy has not had a hit in years, floundering in “Meet Dave,” “Adventures of Pluto Nash,” and “Norbit.” Can Murphy find the zip and zest that propelled him in “Beverly Hills Cop,” or to a certain extinct [sic] “Daddy Day Car” and “Nutty Professor?” Ironically, the plot has a link to Eddie’s career. He plays a financial exec whose life has hit the bricks until his daughter invites him to come into her imaginary world.
• TAKING OF PELHAM 1, 2, 3: A re-make of a 1974 Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw underrated thriller, Denzel Washington takes Matthau’s role as an NYC subway dispatcher whose world of on time routine shatters when four armed terrorists (led by John Travolta) hijack a train and demand a large ransom or they will start putting bullet hole in the passengers trapped in the dark tunnels under Manhattan.

One of the funniest sketches ever. We actually discussed this in a graduate linguistics class.

I wonder if this movie had anything to do w/ the replacement. Is 1992 the first time we see Feddie?

Good call, faulcon.
Distinguished Gentleman came out at the end of 1992. An interesting project would be to see what kind of publicity he did for the movie -- talk shows, etc. Did he do the Tonight Show, etc? What did he say about the film? Was it controversial? Or was he MIA and did no publicity?
There were no EDDIE MURPHY movies released in 1993.
Beverly Hills Cop III was released in May 1994... cleverely drawing a continuity between Eddie & fEDDIE...

Murphy did a show in August 1983 called "Delirious" which was a big hit. It contained some "controversial" material that Feddy later recanted. Apparently some of Eddie's stuff pissed off some celebrities.
I think most or all of it is on YT.

Arsenio Hall (remember him) was one of he hottest properties in television in the late 1980s/early 1990s, then he he abruptly disappeared from the public eye along with his TV show in the 1992-1993 period, not long after Eddie Murphy perished and was replaced with Feddie Furphy. Arsenio and Eddie were friends and Eddie put him in his novies. What happened to Arsenio? I'm sure there is a connection here.

That's a really good point about Arsenio Hall. I thought I'd posted this video of Eddie on his show, but now I don't see it...
