I noticed this, too. If you listened to Eminem's music since My Name Is, the different voices are apparent as well. There are at least three different voices over the years. I've been told it's due to a man aging, drugs, etc., but the voices are just not the same. Listen to My Name Is, Bonnie and Clyde '97, and I'm Not Afraid. The former two are late 90's, while the latter is one of his latest. I hear two different voices on the first two, although one is done in jest and one is sinister, so that could explain it, but the third one is definitely different from all his earlier work. "Eminem" (Marshall Mathers/Partial Mathers) is a ROLE.... nothing more, a role played by different scum CIActors. Also note that it keeps the "Neo-nazi chic" look of military-buzzcut "aryan" blond hair, blue eyes, bullying sadistic tone, originally anti-gay and somewhat racist, in the mass media to manipulate and influence youth and whatever manufactured "youth culture" trend is extant at the time.

I am not a fan or supporter of Eminem or violent music, although I am very knowledgeable of hiphop and rap music, the subcultures, and the recurring themes used over the years to influence the listeners and participants. Eminem is not even scraping the surface of what those two genres of music have morphed into over the past two decades and how said music has negatively affected society.
I, like I thought everyone who would have found their ways to a board like this, am a person who began to notice things and RESEARCH what others were seeing, thinking, and finding. I am well aware that musicians, actors, politicians, etc. are all characters in the world production.
Eminem, technically, would not be the role you described. Slim Shady would be the role. Eminem is the manufactured star who portrays/portrayed that character/role, along with several others. Marshall Mathers would be the man-puppet.
To quote an actual Eminem song, "Slim" is nothing but a "bottle of hair bleach and vodka". That is exactly why the reemergeance of Eminem showed a more mature, polished, dark-haired, and, dare I say, eloquent version of Eminem. It was unexpected, definitely veering from the norm. That got the world's attention. The Slim Shady character no longer offered the shock value it once did.
His latest songs allude to the behind the scenes activities of the entertainment industry, how high the price is for fame, and just who, or what, determines that price and collects the dues.
I'm new to this board and joined after seeing the open-eyed and open-minded exchanging of ideas and knowledge. Being new does not equate to being ignorant. Less experienced, yes. Completely without any understanding of the concept, no.

So this character is a "Brand" with different Eminems, much like a movie or tv that may have different actors playing the same "role".

So this character is a "Brand" with different Eminems, much like a movie or tv that may have different actors playing the same "role". You could put it that way. It was while looking for something else I stumbled upon great analyses of Eminem's ever-changing persona and how it evolves to keep in step with the trends and times, thus keeping the youth enthralled.

It would be difficult for one person that could translate from era to another era, and keep up with the youth and their interest.
Now if an artist dies when they are young, like Hendrix, Morrison, Kurt Cobain, etc. they keep the interest of different generations because they are perpetually young in the collective mindset of the public. But for someone who is aging, like "Sir Paul"...you can't keep young people interested in the "new"music.
So I would agree that different Eminems arise every few years to be "Fresh" for the young.

You have a great point Lucy.
Every version was different, amplifying the personality traits which would fit in with the popular culture of that time. The first one was the witty, smart alec, who slipped the violent and misogynistic lyrics into his seemingly harmless, due to the humorous setting and tone, music. Then came the angry, volatile version who was raging on his songs. Now, it's the activist who is preaching about his mistakes and the long, difficult journey to finally finding his inner strength? How convenient. He continues to find new, and younger, fans, while keeping pace with the relative life experience steps of his original fans, who are now in their mid-twenties to early thirties.
Madonna and Eminem are, sadly, probably two of the most enduring and successful characters in the sham.

I'm not an Eminem fan by any means, but I too noticed that he completely dropped out of the scene for a while.
As for the Feminem persona, maybe you aren't aware that Eminem once stayed at Elton John's house for a while to take a break and to ask ADVICE of the older star. He apparently was having some sexual orientation issues that needed to be worked out. So, I wouldn't be surprised if this Feminem is actually the original guy gone gay. That would mean the replacement was brought in to appeal to the younger, more MACHO segment of his fan base.

Yes, when he began palling around with Elton John and Marilyn Manson, fans and detractors alike were befuddled. This was a notorious homophobe who had made snide remarks about John and Manson. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Em's went gay. The question would be which one, since there seems to have been several. The original Em seems to have disappeared after the Slim Shady CD.

Not to ask a stupid question, but I will, what does Megan Fox have to do with Eminem being replaced?
I think that the handlers of the "Eminem" brand have decided to throw in a gay replacement to appeal to a wider audience, perhaps being "relevant" to the things in society that is being addressed. I also think that some of these bizarre pairings with different artists is another gimmick to try to attract wider audiences. Not that these people are that compatible but it's all PR.
