I'm surprised they didn't select "Erkel" as his replacement---would be just as believable as that emaciated hot mess up there ^^^^^^^

 Tom Petty is sporting a full beard these days. Always makes me suspicious ...  About Tom Petty. I saw him a few nights ago at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta with the Heartbreakers. Crosby, Stills, and Nash were the openers. I must say that I saw nothing in Petty's performance to convince me it was the real guy. The song choices were totally top 40, with almost no surprises of any kind. He did play four new songs, but they were completely different from his past songwriting style. The performance seemed very "by the numbers" and the band members seemed happier to be there than he did. Tom also seems to have lost some of his smiley, humorous nature. I saw him over ten years ago, and at that time he joked with the audience constantly, and told stories. Compared to that experience, the new Tom had no personality at all. Ten years ago Tom had everyone laughing and feeling at ease. The new Tom seems more uptight. Since Tom has worked with some of the most mysterious subjects of this forum, including Bob Dylan and George Harrison, he seems to be a very likely candidate for replacement. |

I think Tom Pety was replaced in the mid to late 80's. Right before that Travelin' Wilburys/Won't Back Down crap. Before that his music was quite good. It's possible he has been replaced again since then as you have eluded to.
