When we speak of human doubles, look-alikes and dopplegangers, it helps to clarify our present, terrible situation by going through the different types of commonly accepted doppleganger-type people, and the newly revealed (to the public) kind of fame/power/social-control doppleganger that the combination of internet info-pooling and the Paul McCartney "Is Dead/Replaced" scandal has brought to us. The Beatle Paul imposter, it turns out, is only the walrus on the tip of the imposters-iceberg and the media fraud runs much deeper than we could have imagined. But looking at it from another angle, if we consider what we already knew and generally accepted about "dopplegangers" in society, in retrospect, it becomes logical, obvious, even inevitable.

Doubles
Level One: natural, biological look-alikes: identical twins and triplets, fraternal twins, non-twin sisters or brothers who look very much alike, more distant family members who resemble one another. Unrelated people who just happen to resemble one another in facial features. It's been noted that people of different ethnic groups, even races, can have an uncanny resemblance to one another in certain features that stand out.
Level Two: Theatrical/film stand-ins, stunt doubles, security doubles, celebrity impersonator-performers. These are people who usually, but not necessarily, have a noticeable resemblance to the target person they are impersonating, and TEMPORARILY for just a scene, a performance, or in the case of security doubles, a day or two as a decoy, become imposters for someone else. Usually some makeup, prosthetics or wig is applied to this type of double person to help the deception along. It's generally considered that there is nothing wrong or unethical about this kind of impostering deception. Unless say, an audience pays to see Cher perform and they are misled by the promoters into believing that the Cher impersonater that night is the real Cher. But it's hard to see anyone wanting their money back because that train jumping scene in the Clint Eastwood movie was a stunt man and not the real Clint.
Level Three: Spies, covert agents of the police, secret police and military. A professionalized, state-backed version of a common criminal's identity theft of his or her victim. Unlike James Bond 007, most spies in the real world do not reveal their actual name, mind and identity to the world. This is where serious long-term, "legal" identity-faking and impostering occurs, and things start to get seriously weird and disturbing.
And this is where we get to the heart of the doppleganger contradiction in modern society. Everyone knows and accepts that spies with fake identities and disguises, even plastic surgery are many in number and live and work among us, constantly. Masquerading as ordinary people with ordinary lives. Be they in the CIA, the NSA, the federal witness protection program, the FBI, MI6, the FSB, GRU, BND, NYPD, LAPD, the secret services of France, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Spain whatever. They are legion and they are lying about virtually everything to do their jobs. And in order to maintain fake names, faces, and personal histories you would need the active, witting cooperation of many other trusted institutions to help you along in the deception: hospitals, courts, local police, social security records, credit companies, banks etc. So with this fact we have to admit a strong Orwellian vein of government fraud and manipulation runs right though all sectors of the public and private world. It requires many (secret and silent) collaborators. Which brings me to the Fourth Level, the only level that is totally denied and blacked out by all the establishment, in every country.
Level Four: Celebrity imposters. Imposters of people who by dint of their entertainment media power as role model, or ability to influence the masses, are deemed worthy enough to be replaced permanently with look-alike imposters. Performers in TV, Movies and Music. The same kind of long-term indentity fraud and disguise we see with spies/agents of Level Three. The object of the replacement mission is to carry on the persona of the former, real individual, in a completely state-controlled way, for the purposes of steering the masses in some desired directions, or keeping them inactive. Cultural propaganda, "Soft Power Assets," as US strategic planners term them. The natural overlap between actors, performers, politicians, religious leaders and secret agents is taken to its extreme but logical conclusion.
